How to visit the Observatory of Campo Imperatore
Each year the Observatory of Campo Imperatore is reached by many hundreds of visitors. To participate to our initiatives for public it is required no previous specific preparation and each one, from children to graduate students, could satisfy his curiosity.
The guided visits to the observatory are open to organized groups of up to 25 persons. The reservation is required and should be asked by phone or email some weeks in advance. After the confirmation and before the visit, an economic contribution is required to be paid exclusively by Bank Wire Transfer on the bank account of the National Institute for Astrophysics.
Due to the time required for reservation and the payment conditions, we inform that small groups and single visitor could check with the Albergo Campo Imperatore if it already reserved any visit to the observatory (even for the same day) and if there is any vacancy.
The program offers three different visit types in accordance with the scientific activities underway:
- DAYTIME VISIT
(due €100,00 per group)
the visit takes about 45min and includes the entrance inside the Observatory, a film projection about the building and its activities, the visit to one of the telescopes;
- DAYTIME VISIT WITH CONFERENCE
(due €150,00 per group)
the visit takes about 1hr and half and includes the entrance inside the Observatory, a conference with an astronomer (Italian or English language), the visit to one of the telescopes and (if the weather is favourable) the observation of the Sun with a dedicated telescope from the garden (Apo TEC140ED);
- EVENING VISIT
(due €250,00 per group)
the visit takes about 2hrs and half and includes the entrance inside the Observatory, a conference with an astronomer (Italian or English language), the visit to one of the telescopes and (if the weather is favourable) the observation of the night sky with dedicated telescopes from the garden (Apo TEC140ED + S/C 11" EDGE-HD).
The access to the Observatory and the movements inside could be difficult or even impossible to handicapped due to stairs. The reserved and paid visits could be delayed to another day but never paid back. On extreme situations the Observatory could delay any visit in accordance with visitors.
The best period to visit the Observatory is around summer (from May to October). In any case a proper dressing is required: keep in mind that low temperatures and strong wind could occur even in summer in Campo Imperatore.
