                European Week of Astronomy and Space Science
                              Special Session

                   The European Extremely Large Telescope
                              5 July 2012, Rome

As part of the European Week of Astronomy and Space Science (EWASS),
we are organising a Special Session on the European Extremely Large
Telescope (E-ELT).

The E-ELT project aims to construct a 40m class telescope, which will
be the largest optical-infrared telescope in the World. Recently there
have been several key developments in the E-ELT project: the site has
been chosen, an instrumentation plan developed, and the proposal for
construction of the E-ELT was submitted to ESO Council in December
2011. By the time of the EWASS meeting, the E-ELT project is expected
to have entered the construction phase.

This EWASS Special Session will include invited talks on the E-ELT
project status, its science, instrumentation and operations. There
will also be contributed talks covering new ideas for scientific uses
of the E-ELT and its instrumentation, which are continually developing
in the community.

Abstracts for contributed talks or posters can now be submitted for
this Special Session via the web site
