James Dennis Turner

I joined the observatory in November 2025 for my first PostDoc, during which I will be studying fast optical bursts from rapidly spinning neutron stars in interesting systems. I’m originally from the UK, and recently completed my PhD at The University of Manchester’s Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics. My PhD work centered on using the MeerKAT radio telescope to search for pulsars and other fast radio transients as part of the TRAPUM and MeerTRAP projects. I led the searches for young pulsars inside supernova remnants and pulsar wind nebulae. Beyond this, I’m also very interested in long period transients (LPTs) and also fast radio bursts (FRBs) and their possible connection to neutron stars!
My publications can be found at this link. Otherwise, please feel free to get in touch with me at james.turner @ inaf.it
