Maya Garbaccio Gili

I am a PhD student working between INAF-IAPS and INAF-OAR under the supervision of
Dr. Francesca Panessa and Dr. Francesco Carotenuto.
Although Black Holes have always been the driving force behind my studies, my
research in this field officially began during my Master’s thesis. Conducted at the INAF
Observatory of Turin under the supervision of Prof. Francesco Massaro and Dr. Roberto
Soria, my work focused on the characterisation of the candidate Intermediate-Mass
Black Hole ESO243-49 HLX-1. In particular, I studied its optical/UV and X-ray emission,
variability and environment at the outskirts of its host galaxy.
After graduating from the University of Turin in October 2025, my passion and curiosity
towards these sources naturally led me to continue my research in Rome. To build a
more complete picture of Black Hole physics, I now work on linking XRBs and AGNs
through a mass-scaling approach to the physics of their jets, combining observational
data and dynamical models.
