Riccardo La Placa

Riccardo (left): Formerly a PhD student at the observatory under Luigi Stella’s supervision, I have now started a postdoc working on millisecond pulsars with Alessandro Papitto. My PhD work focused on the behaviour of both light and matter around black holes and neutron stars, studying the traces that gravity in the strong field regime leaves on the emission from this systems: analysing them allows us to shed light on the most extreme objects (and events) in the universe, going from constraining the size of neutron stars, to detecting small scale effects of black hole gravitational well, to possibly explaining the still elusive Fast Radio Bursts.
